Wojcik, Leo J. (4 APR 1922 - 13 JAN 2009)
Leo J. Wojcik, Sr., 86, Spencer, Wisconsin, died on Tuesday, Jan. 13, 2009, at th Golden Living Center, Continental Manor, Abbotsford, where he was a resident for the last 8 ½ years. A Catholic funeral service with a Mass was celebrated on Monday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m., at Christ the King Church, Spencer. The Rev. Charles Stoetzel officiated. Grandsons Jamie, Cliff, Josh, Matthew, Douglas, and Ben served as pallbearers. A private burial will be held at a later date.
Leo J. Wojcik was born on April 4, 1922, in the town of Brighton, to Stanley and Anna (nee Patulski) Wojcik. He attended Brighton School in the town of Broghton. He worked on his father’s farm until he married Loretta King on April 23, 1946, at St. John the Baptist Church, Edgar, officiated by the Rev. Edwin Knaut. He worked as a woodsman in his earlier years of marriage. They worked together on the Schreinder Farms in Bakerville doing fieldwork at the paper mill in Wisconsin Rapids. In 1948, they bought an 80 acre farm east of Spencer. They later purchased his father’s 120 acre farm in 1953. They retired from farming in 1980 and traveled the United States visiting family and friends.
He was selected as an Outstanding Retired Farmer in 1989. He enjoyed working with draft horses and going to horse pulls in the area. He also had a pride of John Deere tractors on the farm. They were members of Christ the King Catholic Church and he was a member of the Holy Name Society. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend.
Survivors include his children, Leo (Joan) Wojcik Jr., Mary Ann (Roger) Griepentrog, Theresa (James) Degenhardt, and Dennis (Donna) Wojcik, all of Spencer, and Gerri (Lee) Gamble, Edgerton; his grandchildren, Sarah, Ben, Jamie, Cliff, Josh, Carissa, Rebecca, Matthew, Douglas, Danielle, Darla, Caitlin, and Emma; 12 great-grandchildren; two brothers, Frank Wojcik, Arpin, and Joseph (Nancy) Wojcik, Illinois; and a sister, Anna (Wojcik) Roth, Wauwatosa.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Loretta; his parents; a daughter, Cecilia Ann Wojcik; five brothers, John, Adam, Stanley, Peter, and Theodore; and three sisters, Josephine Iwanski, Leocodia Kreklau, and one in infancy.
Donations are appreciated for a memorial to be established in his name at a later date.
Hansen-Schilling Funeral Home, Spencer, assisted the family with arrangements.
